VISNING: Narration in video art
Selection of the video program "urzula"

The art of narration as a way of representing the course of real and fictional events has experienced an important revival with the development of video art.

A few characteristic approaches set the frame for the specific field of narrative video.
Types of narration that are build in sequences are quite typical, as it i the case in the GUP-py´s video "Take me to the mellarium" presented in the present program.
Another possibility is a free and circular narration, such as in Mi-Ryeon Kim´s three short cartoon animations, based on an associative narration with smooth transitions. The evening program also presents films which only use narrative fragments, like it is the case in the work of Rachel Reupke (infrastructure), who quotes commercial movies .

The confrontation with the type of narration represented in the traditional movies is a strategy often used by the artists. Fragments of movies are built in the videos as traces of a collective cultural code of narration. Tatjana Marusic for example (a woman under the influence- to cut a long story short) compressed a complete movie in a non-verbal short version enabling thereby an indirect comparison between different types of narration.

Herman Mbamba (born 1980, Windhoek, Namibia) shows painting and collage in this exhibition. He educated from National Academy of Fine Arts, Oslo this
spring and has already participated in several exhibitions in Norway and Namibia.
Mbamba lived the last ten years of an oppressive system of rule by the South African apartheid regime. He grew up in a post-independent Namibia;
this becomes the departure point investigated through his paintings, drawings, collages and installations. Through these mediums of art, Mbamba deals with personal history in relation to the collective. Issues such as emigrational and cross-cultural politics remain ever evident in his work.
"To have and build a socio-political and cultural conscious relationship towards appropriation of symbolized images from mass media and
transforming them into a different social and artistic value of aesthetics is an integral part and departure point in the work selected for this exhibition." -artist statement by Herman Mbamba

I tillegg til skittenfunk, storbeats og hip-hop av god gammel årgang har vi også raida lekebutikkene for det som finnes av rett-på-tv konsoller med gamle arcadespill-slagere; Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Ghosts'n Goblins, Commando, 1942, Pole Position, Galaga og masse mer - alt koblet opp på en herlig videokanon som dekker hele veggen, kan det bli gøyere? gøyest? mer gøy? på en torsdag? Neppe.

Konsert: Hello Goodbye
Wow! Husker dere Hello Goodbye?
Jeg tror det må være minst ett år siden de sist stod på scenen. Men nå plutselig spiller de på Sound of Mu! En fyr jeg kjenner sa en gang;
"dette bandet forvandler joikaboller til perler!" Så sant, så sant. Det er som om de klarer å skvise sammen alle de bra låtene fra 50-årene og frem til idag, for så å steke sine egene kjøttkaker. Hvis du tenker deg 50-tallet som det låt på 70-tallet fremført av Jonathan Richman, 60-tallet som Beat Happening fikk det å låte på 80-tallet, krydret med en dæsj Maher Shalal Hash Baz fra vårt årtusen, så skjønner dere muligens hva jag pröver å si. Fortsatt ikke med?
Jeg sier bare: jævli bra band!
